San Gimignano

San Gimignano is halfway between Siena and Florence, very easy to reach for a day tour!
If you’re driving from Florence, at the end of the valley you can see the little city of fairytale tower houses in the skyline called San Gimignano.
San Gimignano (not an easy word to say in English) was, and still is, a strategic place in Tuscany, and already in 990 it was a relay point for pilgrims traveling in the very famous Via Francigena, a route from England to Rome. There were not too many routes back then and San Gimignano immediately becam famous for its beauty, but not only.
The most characteristic aspect are the tower houses: tall towers used as houses in the Middle Ages but also used as a symbol of power and wealth for the families that were living there. Still today, 14 original tower houses are standing and giving San Gimignano a fairytale-like and authentic atmosphere!
From the very famous movie Tea with Mussolini to Assasin’s Creed II, San Gimignano has been a perfect set to dream about.

San Gimignano is not only famous for its beauty but it is also a great place to experience the most beautiful hills of the countryside where you can admire olive tree fields and Vineyards.
